For over 60 years, Northwestel has served the largest operating area in the Western hemisphere and played a large hand in transforming communications in Northern Canada. As part of our 2011 Vision, we will focus on offering innovative technology to our customers – making connections happen in their lives.
A communications & entertainment leader, Northwestel delivers a broad range of telecommunications solutions & television services to a population of 120,000 northern Canadians in 96 communities scattered throughout the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, northern British Columbia and Alberta. All of our more than 500 employees live and work in communities all across the North.
Northwestel’s operations include local telephone services; long distance communications by microwave radio, fibre optic cable and satellite; cable television, and advanced data communications, including High Speed Internet in many parts of our operating area.
Northwestel also provides wireless services for northern customers through cellular, broadband wireless, wireless Local Area Networks, wireless Metropolitan Area Networks and trunked radio services. Northwestel currently operates cellular services in Norman Wells, Northwest Territories and throughout the Yukon through Latitude Wireless and its partner Dakwakada Development Corporation.
Northwestel’s corporate headquarters are located in Whitehorse, Yukon, whereas operations headquarters are in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The company also has sales offices in Fort Nelson, British Columbia and in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
Northwestel became a subsidiary of BCE Inc. in 1988 and of Bell Canada in 1999.
