Microsoft Windows 10 default setting may affect Internet performance

Customers who have upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10 can disable a new feature that may affect Internet performance.

Microsoft Windows Update Delivery Optimization is a default setting that connects your computer to other users on the Internet to distribute upgrades.

To learn more about Windows Update Delivery Optimization, visit Microsoft’s Windows Update Delivery Optimization: FAQ:

Update Delivery Optimization is turned on by default, but there two easy ways to opt out.

Turn off Delivery Optimization:

1.Go to Start, then Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and then select Advanced options.

2.On the Advanced options page, select Choose how updates are delivered, and then use the toggle to turn Delivery Optimization off. When turned off, you'll still get updates and apps from Windows Update and from the Windows Store.

Metered Connection:

Windows 10 won't automatically download updates or apps if it detects that your PC is using a metered connection. Similarly, Delivery Optimization won’t automatically download or send parts of updates or apps to other PCs on the Internet if it detects that you're using a metered connection.

1.Go to Start, then Settings > Network & Internet > Wi Fi > Advanced options.

2.Use the toggle under Set as metered connection to set your Wi Fi connection as metered.
