Backgrounder – Yukon Hospital Foundation 2009 Annual Campaign

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Perfect Health, an initiative to upgrade the Northwestel Centre for Medical Imaging at the Whitehorse General Hospital by converting one of the X-ray rooms to digital technology.

Digital X-ray technology will have several benefits for patients and health professionals at Whitehorse General Hospital. Digital images:

  • Are clear, high quality and high resolution.
  • Are available more quickly.
  • Cut examination times for patients in half.
  • Reduce examination wait times.
  • Eliminate the need for the huge storage areas required by current X-ray cassettes.
  • Are more easily accessible when health care providers consult with one another from remote locations.

In 2008, close to 14,000 radiography exams were performed at Whitehorse General Hospital, demonstrating the urgent need for new state-of-the-art equipment.

The fundraising goal for Picture Perfect Health is $750,000. Yukoners may donate through the Yukon Hospital Foundation’s annual direct mail appeal or by taking part in the 2009 Northwestel Festival of Trees. They may also donate online by going to www.yhf.ca.
