Classic Hollywood Movies Released to Northwestel Video on Demand

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Starting this week, movie lovers in Yellowknife and Whitehorse will have even more reasons to stay close to home, and closer to their television set. That’s because the list of movies available on Northwestel’s Video on Demand (VOD) service just got a whole lot longer.

Over the next few months, hundreds of movies, both older classics and recent blockbusters, are being released to Video on Demand as part of celebrations of MGM Studios’ 85th anniversary. Many of the movies, from both MGM and Warner Brothers, have never before been available on VOD.

“This is an exciting development for movie fans in Whitehorse and Yellowknife,” said Curtis Shaw, Northwestel Vice President, Consumer and Small Business. “The selection of content is incredibly diverse. There is truly something for everyone. With our ever-expanding selection of content, there has never been a better time for customers to enjoy the convenience and quality of Northwestel’s Video on Demand service.”

Customers are invited to browse through the Video on Demand listings to check out the new selections now available. They will include classics such as Casablanca, Ben Hur and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, popular favourites such as Dirty Harry and Fame, and more recent blockbusters such as the Oceans 11 series starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Video on Demand (VOD) is an interactive service which allows customers to order from an ever-changing library of movies and other programming using their digital TV remote control. Video on Demand programming can be watched at the customer’s convenience at any time during the 24 hours following the placement of the order. Customers are able to pause, play, fast-forward, rewind, and watch the program as many times as they like. Northwestel is the only cable television provider of its size in Canada to offer this service to its customers.

Northwestel provides complete telecommunications solutions and entertainment services in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, northern British Columbia and High Level, Alberta. The company’s operations span nearly 4 million square kilometres of the most remote and rugged areas of Canada.
