Deadline Approaches for Submissions to Northwestel Directory Art Competition

Friday, August 21, 2009

Northern artists have just four weeks left to enter Northwestel’s directory artwork competition. The deadline for this year’s contest is Friday, September 18th.

Each year, Northwestel invites artists from all across the North to submit their work to be considered for use on the covers of the three directories. The current competition is seeking artwork for the 2010-2011 directories.

“Northwestel is proud of the outstanding work produced by northern artists and we are delighted to feature some of that work every year on our directory covers,” said Anne Kennedy, Northwestel Director Communications. “The artwork on our covers is a unique feature of Northwestel’s directories. Each spring, we are excited to unveil the work that is chosen for that year’s directory cover. Although it’s always challenging to make the final selections, we enjoy having as much work as possible to choose from. I would encourage artists to take the time now to submit selections of their work to this year’s competition.”

Northwestel has featured original works by northern artists on the covers of its telephone directories since 1983. The company publishes a separate directory for each of the main regions in its operating area, which are Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon/Northern British Columbia. One piece of art is chosen from each of the three regions.

The competition is open to both established and emerging artists. Entrants must be current residents of Northwestel’s operating area and may not have had their work published on a Northwestel directory cover during the last four years.

Each of the three selected entrants will be awarded $2000.00. The winning entries will be added to Northwestel’s corporate art collection.

After all entries are received, they will be posted for public viewing on Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca, until the winners are selected.

Complete rules and the application form for the contest are available on the In the Community page of Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca.
