Northwestel Adds More HD Channels to Its Digital Cable TV Offering

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Northwestel is enhancing the entertainment experience for digital television customers in Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Fort Nelson and High Level. The company recently added a wide range of new channels to its digital cable TV line-up, with much of the new content available in the popular High Definition (HD) format.

The improved digital channel lineup now includes TSN 2 HD, six Super Channel channels, Setanta Sports and Encore Avenue HD.

“The introduction of these new channels allows us to provide exciting new programming to our digital customers,” said Curtis Shaw, Northwestel Vice President, Consumer and Small Business Markets. “Our customers love their sports and their movies, and we are pleased to be able to bring them more of both.”

As an added bonus, Northwestel is offering free previews of some of the new content. This month, all Northwestel’s current digital TV customers are receiving two HD Super Channel channels (722 & 723) and four standard Super Channel channels (411 through 414) free of charge. Customers will also receive a free preview of Setanta Sports (channel 514) in August, when programming will include the launch of the premier league soccer season. In addition, customers who already subscribe to an existing movie bundle will receive a reduced price if they decide to add the Super Channel package as well.

“The High Definition viewing experience is truly spectacular and we know that our HD customers are eager to receive new content that allows them to fully enjoy the latest digital technology,” added Shaw. “Because of the enthusiasm our customers have for our High Definition product, we are working to introduce even more HD channels in the near future.”

If customers wish to subscribe to any of the new channels, they may contact Northwestel at 1-888-423-2333, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time. They may also find more information or order online at nwtel.ca, or visit Northwestel stores in Yellowknife, Whitehorse, Fort Nelson and High Level.

Northwestel’s digital TV service provides all customers with an interactive TV guide with advanced search options, detailed scheduling and menus, and parental control menus. Customers also have the option of purchasing or renting Digital Video Recorders, which allow them to record, play, pause and rewind live HD and standard programming.

Northwestel provides complete telecommunications solutions and entertainment services in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, northern British Columbia and High Level, Alberta. The company’s operations span nearly 4 million square kilometres of the most remote and rugged areas of Canada.
