Northwestel Launches Digital Cable TV and Cable Internet in Spruce Hill and Whitehorse Copper
Digital cable TV and cable Internet are now available to Northwestel customers in the Spruce Hill subdivision and will be available in the Whitehorse Copper subdivision in December 2009.
Northwestel is investing approximately $197,000 in new digital infrastructure in these Whitehorse area subdivisions, providing customers with the opportunity to enjoy an enhanced entertainment experience.
“Giving more customers the opportunity to enjoy our advanced digital platform is a priority at Northwestel,” said Curtis Shaw, Northwestel Vice President, Consumer and Small Business. “Our customers have told us that they would like more leading edge entertainment services and we are continuously investing in our network to make that happen. We are pleased to be able to expand the footprint of our digital services to include Spruce Hill and Whitehorse Copper.”
In addition to recent investments in infrastructure such as new digital equipment in Spruce Hill and Whitehorse Copper, Northwestel is continuously enhancing the company’s digital Cable TV and High Speed Internet platforms.
Over the past year, Northwestel has significantly increased the number of HD channels available to digital TV subscribers. The total number of HD channels available to Northwestel digital TV customers now totals more than fifty and more new HD channels are being added on a regular basis.
In January 2009, Northwestel launched its very popular Video on Demand service. Available to all Northwestel's digital cable TV customers in the Whitehorse area, this unique service offers customers the convenience of DVD movie rentals without having to leave the house.
In September 2009, Northwestel increased the speeds and usage on its cable Internet packages, without increasing prices to the majority of its residential packages. At the same time, Northwestel reduced the price of its top tier Internet service while increasing the download speeds to16 Mbps.
Northwestel offers bundled discounts of approximately 25% for customers who choose both Digital cable TV and cable Internet. An additional special introductory offer is available to Spruce Hill and Whitehorse Copper residents who choose to subscribe to digital cable TV. Northwestel’s digital TV service provides all customers with an interactive TV guide with advanced search options, detailed scheduling and menus, and Parental Control menus. Customers also have the option of purchasing or renting Digital Video Recorders, which allow them to record, play, pause and rewind live High Definition (HD) and standard programming. All digital TV customers can immediately access Video on Demand content, including movies, by pressing the VOD button on their remote control.
