Northwestel Launching High Speed Internet in Two More NWT Communities
Monday, August 10, 2009
Northwestel is introducing High Speed Internet service in the Northwest Territories communities of Fort Resolution and Fort Liard.
The new service is already operational in Fort Resolution and will be available in Fort Liard in early September.
“Over the past three years, Northwestel has made significant investments in deploying fibre optic infrastructure in the N.W.T.,” said Curtis Shaw, Northwestel Vice President, Consumer and Small Business. “Because of this work, we are now able to expand the services we offer in communities such as Fort Resolution and Fort Liard. We are pleased that these investments have allowed us to deliver dramatically faster Internet services for our customers.”
These service improvements are part of a series of announcements being made this summer and fall, including the recent launch of broadband Internet in Fort Providence. In the coming weeks, other announcements will be made about service enhancements in a number of other Northwest Territories and British Columbia communities.
A community celebration will be held in Fort Resolution on Thursday, August 20th, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Deninu Community Hall. Northwestel representatives will be there to provide demonstrations of the new service and offer refreshments to those in attendance.
Northwestel’s High Speed Internet service provides residents with a broadband Internet connection with speeds of up to 5 Mbps. This reliable service is available via digital subscriber line (DSL) technology.
Three packages will be available in the two communities: DSL Lite, an introductory product perfect for casual web surfing; DSL Classic, with a faster connection suitable for downloading photos and music; and DSL Ultra, which is targeted at users who require more speed and bandwidth. Prices for DSL Internet start at $39.95 per month.
If customers wish to subscribe to the new service, they may contact Northwestel at 1-888-423-2333, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. MT. Fort Resolution customers who sign up by August 28th will receive $70.00 off the installation fee.
Northwestel provides complete telecommunications solutions and entertainment services in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, northern British Columbia and High Level, Alberta. The company’s operations span nearly 4 million square kilometres of the most remote and rugged areas of Canada.
