Northwestel Receives COR™ Safety Certification in the Yukon
Wednesday, July 7, 2010
Northwestel has achieved its COR™ safety certification in the Yukon. This follows the company’s COR certification in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut last year.
The COR, or Certificate of Recognition, is a national occupational health and safety accreditation program. It is designed to help companies develop and maintain company-wide safety programs, introduce standardized training and monitor safety programs through annual audits.
In the Yukon, COR is a partnership between the Northern Safety Network Yukon and the Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board.
“Northwestel is very proud to have our commitment to safety recognized through our COR certification in the Yukon,” said Jason Bilsky, Northwestel’s CFO and Vice President of Corporate Services. “The health and safety of our employees and customers is of great importance to us and we’ve worked to attain a strong safety culture throughout our company. Our certification last year in the N.W.T. and Nunavut, followed by this year’s certification in the Yukon, is evidence that we have achieved a high level of safety awareness and practice.”
Northwestel is in the process of achieving COR certification in British Columbia.
Northwestel’s COR certification is a benefit for all its employees, as well as the company’s customers. Northwestel employs more than 300 people in the Yukon and nearly 250 in the N.W.T. and Nunavut.
