Only Nine Days to Go in Annual Northwestel Directory Artwork Competition
Northern artists have nine days left to submit their work to be considered for use on the covers of the 2011 Northwestel telephone directories. Submissions to this year’s directory artwork competition must be received by Friday, September 17th.
Each year, Northwestel invites artists from all across the North to enter its directory artwork competition. Three pieces of art are selected, one from each of the three regions in Northwestel’s operating area (Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon and northern BC), to be featured on the covers of the directories for the following year.
“We are looking forward to seeing this year’s entries,” said Anne Kennedy, Northwestel Director Communications. “Northern artists never fail to impress us with the wonderful variety of styles, subject matter and media used for the work that is submitted. We have already received a number of entries but we encourage all northern artists to use the time remaining to submit their work, if they haven’t already done so. The directory cover is a great way for artists to share their work with northerners. In addition, through our website, they have the potential to reach people in many other parts of the world.”
All eligible entries will be posted for public viewing on Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca until the winners are chosen by the selection committee.
Each of the three selected entrants will be awarded $2000.00 and the winning entries will be added to Northwestel’s corporate art collection.
The application form and a complete description of the competition’s rules and guidelines are available on the In the Community page of Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca, under the heading Directory Cover Art.
Northwestel has featured original works by northern artists on the covers of its telephone directories since 1983.
Northwestel provides complete telecommunications solutions and entertainment services in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, northern British Columbia and High Level, Alberta. The company’s operations span nearly 4 million square kilometres of the most remote and rugged areas of Canada.
