Public Voting Begins in Northwestel Community Cable 9 Video Contest
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
Eleven aspiring video artists are hoping to impress both the public and a panel of experts, as the Northwestel Community Cable 9 video contest enters its final phase. The contest entries will be broadcast until October 15 and residents of Whitehorse are invited to watch and vote for their favorite.
This summer, northern film-makers were invited to submit their work to Northwestel’s first-ever video contest. When the contest deadline passed on August 31st, ten submissions had been received from eleven different film-makers. The films range in length from just over 2 minutes to 15 minutes.
“We are very excited that these film-makers took the time to enter our very first contest of this kind,” said Curtis Shaw, Northwestel Vice President of Consumer Markets. “We have put together a panel of judges who will score the productions and we hope that many northerners will take the time to view the entries and take part in the judging via email. A grand prize winner and four runners-up will be selected to receive prizes. In addition, all the entries will be broadcast, which gives these film-makers a wonderful opportunity to share their work.”
The ten entries can be viewed on Community Cable 9 in Whitehorse. They will be put together into two episodes, with five entries per episode. The films in each episode will appear in a rotating order in each screening. The episodes will be shown on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Episode 1 will be shown at 4 pm and again at 8 p.m. Episode 2 will be shown at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Audience members are encouraged to watch all films and rate each with a score between 1 and 5, with 5 being the best score achievable. They can email their votes to videocontest@nwtel.ca. Only one vote per video will be accepted from each email address. Voting ends on October 15.
Final scores will be based on audience ratings and scoring from the panel of judges.
