Thursday, July 15, 2010
Post-secondary students across the North have another two weeks to submit applications to win one of Northwestel’s Northern Futures Scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year. The deadline for applying to the ninth annual Northern Futures Scholarships Program is July 31st, 2010.
Each year, scholarships of $2500.00 each are awarded to approximately ten students engaged in full-time post-secondary studies in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Business/Commerce. Five of the scholarships are available exclusively to Aboriginal students.
“Northwestel encourages students from across the North to apply to this program,” said Northwestel President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Flaherty. “The Northern Futures Scholarship program is one of the ways in which our company works to support northern students and communities, and to help build a better, stronger North. For many young Northerners, achieving a higher education is the key to realizing their dreams. We are committed to doing what we can to help northern students achieve their goals.”
Applicants are required to submit a completed application form, official transcripts, letters of support and an essay that addresses the topic of climate change. Students are invited to discuss the role that Broadband and Internet services will play in fighting climate change in the North.
More information and application forms are available in the Employment section of Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca. Inquiries can also be directed to scholarships@nwtel.ca.
