Digital Television and Cable Internet Arrive in Fort Smith

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Northwestel is very pleased to announce that it launched Digital Television and Cable Internet in Fort Smith today.
“We are excited to be offering even better TV and Internet in Fort Smith,” said Curtis Shaw, Northwestel Vice President Consumer Markets. “Since purchasing Fort Smith Cable in September, we’ve invested over $2.3 million to improve equipment and infrastructure in this community. We look forward to offering high quality service to the town of Fort Smith.”
Digital TV offers crystal clear picture and sound, more than 350 channels (over 30 in High Definition), and a great selection of Pay-per-View movies and events. With Digital TV, customers can use Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) to pause, rewind and record live TV.
Cable Internet is Internet over a fibre optic cable, instead of the tradition copper wire service. Northwestel’s cable Internet packages offer customers high speeds and larger monthly usage allowances.
Customers can choose from a wide variety of packages and take advantage of a variety of cost saving options. By purchasing both Digital TV and Internet, customers can “bundle” their packages to get extra savings.
Customers interested in these new TV and Internet options can contact Northwestel at 1-888-423-2333, or visit nwtel.ca/TV. From Tuesday March 15th through Friday March 18th, Northwestel representatives will also be in Fort Smith at the Cable Office at 182 McDougal Road, to provide information and sign up customers interested in these new services. The office will be open from March 16 and 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and March 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In 2010, Northwestel contributed more than $600,000 in cash and in-kind donations to many northern community groups. Throughout its history, Northwestel has played a key role in the economic, social and cultural development of the North. Northwestel is recognized as a key contributor to the well-being of northern communities through its community investment program and the volunteer contributions of its employees.
Northwestel provides complete telecommunications solutions and entertainment services in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, northern British Columbia and High Level, Alberta. The company’s operations span nearly 4 million square kilometres of the most remote and rugged areas of Canada.
