Artists Invited to Submit Work for 2012 Northwestel Directory Covers

Friday, August 12, 2011

Northern artists have approximately one month remaining to search through their portfolios and choose an artwork to enter in Northwestel’s annual directory cover art competition. The deadline to submit entries for this year’s competition is September 16th.
Each year, Northwestel invites northern artists to submit their work to a competition which selects three pieces of artwork, one from each of three regions in its operating area (Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon/northern BC/High Level AB). The three winning pieces are featured on the directory cover distributed in the artists’ respective areas of the North for the following year. Each of the three winning artists is awarded $2000.00 and their artwork is added to Northwestel’s corporate art collection.
“We look forward to receiving another wonderful selection of entries for our 2012 directories,” said Paul Flaherty, Northwestel President and Chief Executive Officer. “Northwestel is committed to supporting the arts right across the North and we are proud to showcase different northern artwork on our directory covers each year.”
All eligible entries are posted for public viewing on Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca until the winners are chosen by the selection committee.
The application form and a complete description of the competition’s rules and guidelines are available on the In the Community page of Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca, under the heading Directory Cover Art.
Northwestel has featured original works by northern artists on the covers of its telephone directories since 1983.
Northwestel provides complete telecommunications solutions and entertainment services in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, northern British Columbia and High Level, Alberta. The company’s operations span nearly 4 million square kilometres of the most remote and rugged areas of Canada.
