Northwestel Achieves COR™ Safety Certification in B.C.
Wednesday, August 17, 2011
Northwestel has received its COR™ safety certification in British Columbia. This follows the company’s COR certification in Yukon last year, and in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut the year before that.
The COR, or Certificate of Recognition, is an initiative that provides an opportunity for employers to take a proactive role in promoting occupational health and safety. It recognizes and rewards employers that go beyond legal requirements and take a best practices approach to implementing health, safety and return-to-work programs. COR promotes the concept of managing health and safety equally with other components necessary for a successful business.
In British Columbia, the COR program is administered by the Partners in Injury and Disability Prevention Program (Partners Program) of WorkSafeBC.
“The health and safety of our employees are paramount,” said Jason Bilsky, Northwestel’s Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Corporate Services. “Northwestel is proud to have our commitment to safety recognized through achieving COR certification right across the North. We’ve worked hard to attain and maintain a high level of safety awareness and practice at every level and in each department within the company. COR certification is strong evidence that we have achieved a strong safety culture.”
Northwestel’s COR certification is a benefit for all its employees, as well as the company’s customers. Northwestel employs nearly 25 people in BC, over 360 people in Yukon and over 250 in the N.W.T. and Nunavut.
