Call Waiting ID FAQ

What options do I have for telephone sets/equipment for Call Waiting ID?

Northwestel rents a Regency 400 telephone set equipped for Call Waiting ID. Unfortunately, the Vista 200 set is not compatible with Call Waiting ID. If you currently rent a Vista 200 set, you may exchange it for a Regency 400 set at no extra charge. You may also purchase a new, appropriately equipped phone set from another retail store or mail order outlet.

Why don't the names of incoming callers appear on my phone set?

Call Waiting ID only displays the number of the incoming caller. Due to technical limitations, Northwestel cannot currently offer Name Display as a feature.

Many phone sets include a directory into which you can program/add your own list of frequently called telephone numbers and associated names. If you have an appropriately equipped phone set, the set will display the name (as well as the number) of any incoming callers you have programmed in the directory. This capability depends on the model of your phone set.

Why do some numbers not show up with Call Waiting ID?

There are several possible reasons a number may not show up:

  • The incoming call may be blocked with the Call Display Block feature
  • The number of the incoming caller may be unlisted, in which case it may show up on the display as a "Private Number".
  • If the incoming call is from a long distance number, the number may not appear due to limitations with the switching equipment in your community and/or the switching equipment or programming in the community from which the call is made.
