How To Use Video On Demand

If you subscribe to Northwestel’s Digital TV, then you have everything you need to start using Video on Demand! Follow the steps below and you’ll be watching the movies you want, when you want in no time.

  1. Note: To return to the previous screen press the last LAST button on your remote control at anytime.
  1. Turn on your TV and Digital TV Receiver.
Quick Tip: Skip to step 4 by selecting your vod VOD button on your remote control.
  2. Press MENU to bring up the Quick Menu. Then use the arrows on your remote control to highlight the ON (On Demand) button on your screen. Press okay OK on your remote control.
  3. Alternatively, you can access the same area by pressing the menu MENU button twice, then selecting On Demand.
  4. In the On Demand menu, select the program category using the arrow buttons. This selection allows you to select one of the main program categories (My Rentals, Free Zone, Movies On Demand, etc.)

Select a sub category (eg. Movies On Demand contains sub categories of New Releases, Movies A to Z, Movies by Category, and Just In)
  5. Use the up_arrow up and down_arrow down buttons on your remote control to scroll through movies or use the page up and page down buttons to jump to the previous or next listing.
  6. Select okay OK on your remote control to find out more information about the movie, including what it’s about, who’s in it, what it’s rated, purchase price, and expiry date.
  7. Use the left_arrow left and right_arrow right buttons on your remote control to view a trailer, set or remove a lock, or purchase your movie.
  8. A confirmation screen will pop-up. Select Order to start watching your movie.

Using the Remote Control Buttons

The  play,  stop,  pause,  fast forward, and  rewind buttons are used to control Video On Demand playback. Here’s what these buttons do:

  • play Play: Resumes playback of a paused movie.
  • stop Stop: Stops movie playback. You can resume your movie at the exact same place by selecting the movie in the My Rentals menu.
  • pause Pause: Pauses movie playback. If you need to stop playback for only a few minutes, use this button instead of stop. Like a VCR, a Video On Demand selection will not remain paused forever. After about 10 minutes, the movie will automatically stop.
  • rw Rewind: Skip back two minutes.
  • ff Fast Forward: Skip forward two minutes.

Setting Parental Controls

Northwestel gives you complete control over what your family watches. By locking your Digital TV receiver, you can prevent movies and television programs with certain content ratings from being ordered and can even set-up your receiver to not show adult programs on your channel guide.

Follow these steps to set Parental Control on your Digital TV Receiver:

  1. Select the menu MENU button on your Digital TV receiver’s remote control.
  2. Use the left_arrow left or right_arrow right arrows buttons to highlight the Parental Controls button. Press the okay OK button.
  3. A pop-up window will appear requesting you to set and confirm a 4-digit PIN.
  4. The Locks Setup menu will appear. Select either Movie Rating Locks and/or Adult Titles.
Movie Rating Locks: will require your 4-digit PIN each time you attempt to order or view a program with a lock set.
Adult Titles: will simply show or hide any adult rated titles available.
  5. Use the left_arrow left and left_arrow right arrow buttons to scroll through your options and hit the okay OK button to confirm your choice.
