Calculate Your Internet Usage

What you choose to use your Internet connection for significantly affects your monthly usage. The estimator tool below cannot provide exact usage, but it can help you better understand how much usage the various types of Internet activities create. This can help you decide which Northwestel High Speed package is best for you.

How to estimate your usage

For each Internet activity listed below, enter the units of that activity you perform and then select whether the number entered represents the units on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. If you do not participate in that particular activity, simply leave the unit value blank.

After you have completed estimating how much of each activity you perform, simply click on the “estimate” button to get your monthly usage estimate.  Click on the “reset” button to set all the amounts back to 0.

Please note: File sizes specified in the tool above are averages – graphic intensity and resolution of images as well as the duration of activities all have an effect on actual usage. Also note that other Internet activities not specified in the list above will also increase your usage.

If you are using peer-to-peer applications such as Bittorrent and Gnutella, and allow peer-to-peer uploads, your usage will significantly increase. These applications are also known as file-sharing programs. You should disable the file-sharing option that allows other people to upload files from your computer in order to limit your usage. For more information on file-sharing, refer to how to reduce your usage where you’ll also find additional tips on how to not exceed your free usage limit.
