Today, Northwestel, Northern Canada’s premier provider of innovative communications solutions, announced its new Vice-President of Business Markets, Paul Gillard.
“Paul brings 23 years of telecommunications experience, and has a deep commitment to the North,” says Northwestel President and CEO Paul Flaherty. “Above all, he is a team player, and I know he will deliver tremendous value to our Northern business and government customers.”
As General Manager of NWT-based ARDICOM Communications from 2004 to 2012, Paul developed strong relationships with governments, aboriginal communities and businesses to deliver Northern communications solutions. As Northwestel’s Director of Network Operations for the past 3 years, he has overseen the continuous improvements in Northwestel’s fibre, microwave and satellite networks.
“I have had the chance to experience first-hand what it takes to bring state-of-the-art telecommunications solutions to some of the coldest, more remote regions in Canada,” says Paul Gillard. “I’m proud to have the opportunity to lead a team that knows the North and its people better than anyone, hands-down.”
Paul Gillard currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Yellowknife United Way and is heavily involved with the NWT Soccer Association. “I’m so proud to call Yellowknife home,” he says. “It’s such a family friendly community, from easy access to lakes to incredible sports opportunities. I’m happy to have the opportunity to continue to give back.”
Paul Gillard is taking over from outgoing Vice-President Mark Walker, who is retiring after almost 30 years with Northwestel. “Over his lifetime, Mark Walker has made an indelible contribution to Northern life and to the tremendous evolution of communications in the North,” concluded Paul Flaherty. “All of us at Northwestel will miss him, and we wish him and his family the very best.”
