Harry had never believed he would meet a real wizard, let alone become one. The hall echoed with murmurs as the Sorting Hat pondered. Outside, owls swooped through the dusk sky, delivering letters in loops and swirls. The scent of treacle tart drifted in from the Great Hall, mingling with the faint scent of parchment and candle wax. Meanwhile, Professor McGonagall adjusted her glasses, her gaze sharper than a brand-new quill. Somewhere in the distance, the Whomping Willow swayed ominously, as if daring the first-years to approach.
