Do Not Call List National Registry
Telephone users across Canada are now able to register their phone numbers with the national Do Not Call List (DNCL) for telemarketers. On September 30th 2008, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) launched the Do Not Call List, a federal initiative aimed at dealing with concerns about unwanted marketing and sales calls.
Beginning September 30th, Canadians can place their phone numbers on the list, for free, by contacting the DNCL directly at:
- 1-866-580-3625 (phone)
- 1-888-362-5329 (fax)
- 1-888-362-5889 (TTY)

The list will give Canadians the opportunity to reduce the number of telemarketing calls and faxes that they receive. Telemarketers must purchase a subscription for the area codes they intend to call and ensure that they have a copy of the Do Not Call List which is no more than one month old. Telemarketers will be prohibited from calling any home phone, cellular or fax numbers on the
Telephone users wanting to have their number added to the list must allow for a
30-day processing time to have the list updated.
The Do Not Call List will reduce but not eliminate telemarketing calls. Certain types of telemarketers are exempt from this regulation, including registered charities and political parties.
