Northwestel launches fibre Internet to North’s first 2 fly-in communities: Fort Good Hope and Tulita.

Tulita/ Fort Good Hope, NT August 2, 2022 – Today, Northwestel launched fibre internet in Fort Good Hope and Tulita, NWT. Customers in the two Mackenzie Valley communities can now access high-speed, unlimited fibre Internet and live HD TV with Northwestel TV Plus.

Fort Good Hope and Tulita are the first fly-in communities with seasonal winter-road access to be fully connected to fibre in the north. Homes and businesses are now served with the same fibre optic technology that connects people in Canada’s largest cities.

Families can surf, stream and game with speeds of up to 300 Mbps (up from 15 Mbps previously), all without worrying about their monthly data. Businesses can take advantage of more cloud services, faster document transfers, and more simultaneous video calls.  Customers will also be able to sign up for Northwestel TV Plus and watch live TV on the big screen or on-the-go with the Android or iOS app, for as little as $25 a month.

“Northwestel has connected its first 2 fly-in communities to high-speed internet using full fibre technology, significantly improving broadband access and speeds.  Our engineers and technicians are so grateful for the local support we’ve received in working through the unique challenges of bringing fibre right into homes in Tulita and Fort Good Hope.”
- Tammy April, Northwestel Vice-President, Customer Experience

These fibre upgrades are part of Northwestel’s Every Community Project, a 3-year project to bring high-speed unlimited internet to 10,000 homes across the Northwest Territories and Yukon.  The improvements were funded by the CRTC Broadband Fund as well as Northwestel’s own significant investments.

Customers can order the new fibre Internet and TV services online at www.nwtel.ca.
