Serving up teamwork
The part that excites Josie most about the Arctic Winter Games is the chance to work as a team, take on new challenges and meet new people.
“I am a very talkative person. I like being around people. I like working with people. That’s why I love volleyball so much - you can’t do it alone. And now I am getting the chance to play people who don’t even live in Canada!”
Six days a week, Josie is at volleyball practice. Three days a week, she works out. She has competed regionally before, at the Western Canada Games, as well as nationally, but now Josie and her teammates prepare for international competition.
The anticipation of competing in her hometown makes Josie nervous. But she knows that her team, her coach and her community, who have always been there to support her, are rooting for her now. She especially gives credit to her mother Angela – Northwestel employee and super-mom – for driving her to countless practices and games without complaint.
