Rolling into first place at the Dawson City Outhouse Race
A feat of engineering, resourcefulness, and determination
The Dawson City Outhouse Race didn’t know what it had coming when a group of our colleagues showed up to compete at the 2020 event. With just a bit of duct tape, some cardboard and an old carriage with two flat wheels, our last-minute team took first place.
Every year, teams of four competing in the Outhouse Race must build an outhouse on wheels and race five kilometres. Usually, race organizers provide prefabricated structures to teams, but due to our team’s last-minute entry, we were left to find a structure all on our own.
But, this added obstacle didn’t stop our team, aptly named Just in Time. After finding an old carriage at the Dawson dump, we were able to create something that had an uncanny resemblance to Shrek’s outhouse…
While off to a slow start, Just in Time was able to pick up speed, and rolled into first place by mere milliseconds.
Congratulations to the Just in Time 2020 Dawson City Outhouse Race team!
