Sharing the spirit, one toy at a time

There's nothing more magical than the look on a child’s face when they’re opening a gift. This magical moment is one that every family deserves. That's why across the North, communities are coming together to ensure over 1515 families can share the holiday spirit this season. And Northwestel is proud to be supporting these efforts in all three northern Territories.

If you can, we invite you to take part too. Here’s how.

Share the Spirit: Yukon

The Whitehorse Firefighters Charitable Society is collecting toys for children across the Yukon. From Old Crow to Whitehorse, they work hard to ensure no family is missed.

The team is lead by Nick O’Caroll. Through his years of dedication, he has experienced firsthand the positive impact of this program in the North.

“We try to deliver hope. This program is a light.”

Nick is thankful for all the partners who support the program. He encourages Yukoners to participate in the toy drive and share the spirit. As Nick puts it, “We need to make sure Santa’s backyard is covered”.

To take part in Share the Spirit you can drop off an unwrapped, new toy at our Whitehorse retail store by December 10.

The gift of hope: Nunavut

In Nunavut, the Iqaluit Angel Tree is collecting toys for children in their community.  As well, the Rotary Club of Iqaluit is preparing and delivering holiday food hampers to families who need support. Together they are helping bring joy to their communities this holiday season.

We’re proud to continue our support of these dedicated teams with a donation of $5000. If you’re interested in helping give the gift of hope, please contact the organizations. You can email the Iqaluit Angel Tree at iqaluitangeltree@gmail.com and the Rotary Club of Iqaluit at irc.secretary@gmail.com.

Bring a Toy. Share the Joy: Northwest Territories

The Salvation Army is busy collecting toys and setting up its Christmas shop. Led by Executive Director Jason, their team is working to provide presents to children in need this holiday season.

The team is helping families feel supported and celebrate their little ones this holiday season.  As Jason explains,

“We don’t want people to have to decide between their hydro bill and toys for their kids at Christmas. We want to be able to take that burden away to allow them to focus on being able to buy essential items."

The Yellowknife Salvation Army Toy Drive kick- off

The Toy Drive launch event in Yellowknife

This year Jason encourages the Yellowknife community to show love for one another, and bring joy and hope to those in need through participating in the program.

You can take part this year by donating a new unwrapped toy to the Yellowknife retail store by December 10.

Happy holidays from our family to yours

Thank you for joining us and bringing communities together to share the magic of the holidays with children in need. We are proud to continue our support with a $5000 donation to the Holiday Giving campaigns in each territory. Thank you to all our community partners and dedicated volunteers who share the spirit and support the toy drives.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday.
